Final Blog Post

This year in comp sci has been enjoyable. To begin, Greenfoot for the final is, in my opinion, a fine idea. Taking into consideration that a lot of people have scrapped their original projects, I think having a fairly fun and not extremely difficult final like this is a good idea. It would have been better if our projects culminated into our final grade, but as I said, most people scrapped theirs.  Doing a Greenfoot final is however a lot better than a written AP, considering how much I hate writing code on paper. This class has been a pretty good class. I actually did learn some XNA and am even considering doing something with it. It’s a pretty nice language and the things that Stefan and I made in such little time were really amazing. As far as Android development goes, I feel as though it was kind of worthless. I didn’t really learn much Android code and I feel it would’ve been nicer to focus on actually learning a new language since the beginning. Had the class been almost entirely XNA I would have enjoyed it a lot more. At the end of the first semester we became kind of misguided and realized how large of an undertaking an entire Android application was, with no Android to even test our app on. A lot of the code was way out of our league and the official LASA app that would’ve come out would’ve looked very unprofessional. Overall, it would’ve been nicer to actually learn an entire language kind of like we did in AP Comp Sci. It would’ve been nice to have an actual curriculum instead of just scrambling to finish the app without a real end in sight. We could’ve also created one app as a class and assigned different parts of the app to different people. However, the class was fun and a great learning experience. It was Comp Sci 2’s first year, and that has to be taken into account. I enjoyed comp sci 2 and will remember it as a great, fun class.

last week

Last week was one great week. I really enjoyed it. We completed all the tutorials for visual studio and pretty much brought the year to a close. Our final is going to be greenfoot so from here on out I'm going to be reviewing my greenfoot skills. Hopefully we can work in groups because I would really like to not fail the final exam. Full speed ahead! Greenfoot is actually kind of cool though, it's a great way to use java and a bit easier than normal programming. A lot of the games you can make are cool.

last week

Last week was another weird week. I missed Teusday and was thus only there for Thursday. On Thursday we started trying to do a project on our own without the tutorials. We were editing the code we have for the controller and sound to do various weird things. It got a bit difficult, but overall XNA isn't that bad. We'll probably keep messing around with XNA for a bit and then set forth on a mini-project later on. Full speed ahead!

the taks week

Last week consisted of one day and one day only: TAKS day. Mr. Stephens was absent and we had a sub, but the class was surprisingly tame. Stefan and Lambros were absent and I wasn't sure where Stefan had saved all of our tutorials since I was absent the time before so I just decided to look up stuff on the internet about C# and did some basic tutorials. Overall an ok week considering the time we had.

They See Me Bloggin'

They hatin'. We started doing basic C# tutorials. It's suprisingly less like java than I expected, but also much easier than I had expected. The autocomplete in Visual Studio is also really helpful. Overall, Stefan and I are moving at a really brisk pace. I was absent on Thursday due to being ill, however I believe that Stefan worked through the tutorials even further than I did. Once we're done with these tutorials we should start on a good project. Full speed ahead!

last week

Last week was a fine week. I'm nearly finished making tabs work in the web browser that I'm making in XNA. It's turning out very well, but is a very long and arduous process. I got the basics of the web browser off of a website, however it was lacking a progress bar and a forward and back button. I added those two right after I got it working, however the tabs are proving to be quite difficult. I'm approaching it very similarly to opening a new window, however it's hard to truncate the url bar off of the "new window". I think I should get pretty smooth functionality by the 6 weeks. Stefan asked if he could help me out with it so maybe we'll team up from here and make it even nicer.

bloggin'

Last week everything was finally set up. We got C# installed and everything was working. I decided to begin experimenting with Kodu. It's fun to play with and seems like an interesting program, but it's really simple and overall boring. It's obviously designed for a younger audience and I feel as though I could get a lot more productive things done in regular C#. I think from here on I'm going to work in C# and learn the basics. I kind of have wanted since the beginning of the year to make a webbrowser-like program or just something related to that, and I feel that now that I have some individual work time I can start doing something like that in C#. It'll probably be very complex, but I'll just wait and see how everything turns out.
