I have even more to say!

So to make up for the week that I didn't do, here's more that I have to say about this week. I actually found a really cool code that makes it so that when you click on a name in the directory there is a pop-up similar to how zazub's games pop up in window. Then, I found another code that when you click on an e-mail it opens up the android mailing window. Additionally, if you click on a phone number then it will actually call that number. I'm going to see if there's a way to make it so that if you have that number you can click it and it pops up with two options: add to contacts or call number. This is really going to help out with our directory page and I'm really glad I found it.

This week

This week wasn't very good. We still have our errors and they don't seem to be going away. We think it may have something to do with the layout, however it's hard to fix as there isn't much information online about the error. The good news is that our final sounds easy and we definitely got more work done than anybody else, considering how many people were gone for Model UN. It seems we'll just have to complete the app after the semester, which we were hoping we wouldn't have to. All we have left now is fixing errors and the directory page.

blogs

Blog 1: This week was very good, we finally got our RSS feed working and the news is automatically streaming in from the website. We still need to format everything and make it look nice but we'll probably do that after winter break because next week we'll probably be working out the errors in the program. We are actually having quite a few errors now that our application is becoming more complex. The whole program compiles and we can run it too but it ends up crashing and says something about "Force Closed". Hopefully we get it fixed next week. If not, we can always finish after we get back from winter break.

Comp Sci 2 Week Number 25

We're just about ready to get the App out and ready to go for the LASA showcase. Lambros needs to program in my visuals, which I must say, are quite beautiful. We need to decide what we want to put into the Directory and Sports tab as a placeholder for the showcase. We can't just have a white screen because frankly, that would look pretty sad, but we also can't program the full page because that would be impossible to do in two days. What I think I might do is just make a mock-up page that actually looks like it could be the page and put it in as a picture on the pages. It won't be functional, but at least it will look nice and make the visiting middle schoolers go "ooooh aaaaah".

This Week in Comp Sci 2

I'm not quite sure when the LASA showcase is but so far we are pretty crunched. We almost have all the assets and pictures done for the home page but we need to program them in and also get the twitter updates functional. What we might actually end up having to do is just make a picture in photoshop and not make it functional but just at least have something pretty there to work with. We worked non-stop last week (except for Friday, the day when we watched that movie) and we're going to do the same this week. Hopefully we can crank out the home page by the end of the week but if not we can look at our other options.

comp sci 2 app development blog

Ok, so we have a pretty short time-line to get our new goal worked out. Since the LASA showcase is coming up we really need to get a good homepage working so that when people click on our app they don't just see a blank tab, blank tab, fully working calendar, blank but actually something that looks pretty and functional. So, this week we're going to have to work very hard and we're going to need to do a lot of designing to get a functional homepage out. Hopefully we can also put some filler pictures in for the other tabs to give an idea as to how the app will end up looking so that people at the showcase are like "wooooooow, that's one cool looking app". We have our work cut out for us for this upcoming week.

blog

This week was a turnaround from the week prior. We actually got quite a bit done. We've managed to work out the kinks in the calendar view and I made the buttons we need in photoshop over the weekend. We actually only ended up getting one day of work because there were only 2 blocks last week and for the last block we were at a college visit. Now just to do the tutorials...

BLOG

This blog is going to be short because I can't type. I got stung by a bee and my finger hurts. This week wasn't very productive, but we did get things done. Everything slowed down mainly because we actually completed our 6 weeks checkpoint. The calendar section is nearly done; I'm just resizing it to fit the screen. We may need more tabs so I don't know if I'll need to do some more photoshop work. Overall, however, things are good.

MY NEWEST BLOG POST

This week feels like it was sort of a break. We were programming those robots all week and they made things very relaxed this week, which made for a nice end to the week in which I actually ended being in the top in the final fights between the robots. As far as our app goes however, we're trying to figure out how to embed google calendar, but it's very hard to do, because it looks as if Android only enables one calendar on screen at a time and the LASA calendar is actually multiple calendars layered upon each other on the lasaonline website (i.e. a sports calendar in blue, a holiday calendar in red, etc.). This is where we're stuck at currently and we don't know exactly what to do. Overall however, it was a good week.

Moblie App Development BLOG 3

The first six weeks has ended and I feel good as far as the app goes. Our development came along nicely, we each got 3 tutorials done and finally completed our layout. We're going to push ahead and I'm looking forward to getting our robocode done; it sounds like fun. Our group is running well and we aren't getting too distracted. Next up we're going to the calendar section and we hope that it will be easy. Second six weeks, here we come!

Week 2

This week was very productive; we finally got all buttons working and our tabs set out. Currently, when you click on a button it glows and switches to the tab it's supposed to go. We just need to make it so that the button ends up staying glowing as currently it only flashes. Things are actually coming together well and we're looking forward to how this is going to turn out. I've gotten 2 tutorials done and still need a third, but I play to do that tutorial on Tuesday. I think I'll do my next tutorial on implementing google calendar into a layout. The group is doing well!

First Week Blog

As far as the development process goes for the LASA app, everything's going fine and in order. We're definitely moving at a very fast and unexpected pace, but it's going to get much harder from here. So far we've gotten tabs and buttons down and we're working on integration of google calendar into the Android environment through already written code. Additionally, we're trying to get the actual app's assets in order, creating the visuals before we begin implementing them. I'm pretty much going to be in charge of getting all of the graphics done as soon as possible and then helping out the coding aspects, because we definitely want our app (considering it's the official LASA one) to look very nice. We still need to get into contact with the website development crew, but that's not entirely urgent as we're still in the beginning stages of app development and largely just experimenting. If everything goes at the pace it's currently going, I doubt we will be working on the app much longer than a semester, but we expect it to slow down once we get to the troubleshooting and difficult coding parts. However, we plan on tackling those parts as easy as possible, relying on RSS  from the website to both make it so that the app automatically updates and to make the coding a little bit less of a burden. Overall, however, everything is going great.
